SYMPTOMS
When you save a document from Word 98 Macintosh Edition as a Word 4.x or Word 5.x document, revisions marked with Track Changes are converted to formatted text when reopened.
For example, deleted text that is marked with a strikethrough using Track Changes will be converted to text formatted with the strikethrough character attribute.
CAUSE
Word versions 5.x and earlier do not support revision marks. Character formatting indicating revised text is retained.
WORKAROUND
Accept the revised changes before saving as a Word 4.x or Word 5.x document.
