SUMMARY
This article describes how you can search an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) server that you are logged on to for one or more users using the Microsoft Chat User List.
MORE INFORMATION
You can use the Chat User List to search an IRC server that you are logged on to for one or more users with the following options:
- All Users
- Nickname
- Identity
- Members of Room
All Users
All Users lists all of the users on the network. It is not recommended that you use this search option on large IRC networks for the following reasons:
- The list may take several minutes to download.
- The server may deny your request.
- The server may log you off.
Nickname
Nickname narrows your search based on the user's nickname. If you do not type text in the Names Containing box, the complete list of Users is displayed. The results displayed are the same as the All Users option.
Identity
Identity searches for a user based on their identity.
Room
Room search displays all the users in that room. The results displays all the participants in that room if the room is not marked as private or hidden.
To do a search on an IRC server using the Chat User List, follow these steps:
- On the Member menu, click User List.
- Click to select one of the following options:
- All Users
- Nickname
- Identity
- Members of Room
If you click All Users, click Search. If you click Nickname, type the nickname that you want to search for in the Names Containing box, and then click Search. If you click Identity, type the identity that you want to search for in the Names Containing box, and then click Search. If you click Members of Room, type the room that you want to list the users of in the Room box, and then click Search.
- After you have viewed the information, click Close.
