NTBackup Will Not Run from Command Line with Blank Space

SYMPTOMS

When you back up a file or directory using Windows NTBackup from an MS-DOS command prompt and put one or more spaces in the command, NTbackup will ignore the command.

For example:

ntbackup backup "c:\program files\windows nt\accessories"

CAUSE

Because of the blank spaces in the "program files" and the "windows nt" section of the command, the directory will be ignored by NTBackup and the backup will fail.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
