SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Golf 1998 Lite, you may receive the following error message:

Game caused an Invalid Page Fault in module Findstuff32.dll.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur for either of the following reasons:

  • The display properties are not configured correctly.
  • One or more of the DirectX files is missing or damaged.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. In the Colors box, click High Color (16-bit).
  5. Move the Screen Area slider to 800 x 600 pixels or higher.
  6. Click OK, and then follow the instructions on the screen to apply the new display settings. Test to see if the behavior is resolved. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next step.
  7. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
  8. In the Named box, type ddraw.dll dsound.dll, and then click Find Now.
  9. In the list of found files, right-click each file, and then click Delete. Continue until the list of found files is empty.
  10. Close the Find: Files Named Ddraw.dll Dsound.dll window.
  11. Insert the Microsoft Windows 98 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM to prevent the Windows 98 CD-ROM from starting automatically.
  12. Double-click My Computer, and then double-click the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows 98 CD-ROM.
  13. Double-click the Win98 folder.
  14. Double-click the Win98_31.cab folder.
  15. Copy the Ddraw.dll and Dsound.dll files into the Windows\System folder.
