SYMPTOMS
When you start PowerPoint for the first time, the default file location for the personal folder of the user is changed from the network location to a hard disk location on the computer where the user is logged on to the network. This behavior only occurs if you are using roaming user profiles.
WORKAROUND
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
Change the following registry keys so that PowerPoint can properly read the network location for the default user location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\PowerPoint\Recent Folder List\Default
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\New User Settings\PowerPoint\Recent Folder List\Default
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
