SUMMARY

To use the latest versions of the common controls with Windows, you must have the latest version of Comctl32.dll installed. You can obtain and distribute the latest version of Comctl32.dll appropriate to a particular operating system in either one of the following ways:

In all cases, you can upgrade Comctl32.dll by installing the latest version of Internet Explorer (currently 5.0a) intended for the particular platform:
This is the preferred method of upgrading Comctl32.dll for all platforms. Please note that some newer controls may not be added to older versions of Windows (Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.x, and Windows NT 3.x).
You can use the file 50comupd.exe to install Comctl32.dll (version 5.70.x.y) on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. You cannot use 50comupd.exe for Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.x, or Windows NT 3.x. You must install Service Pack 4 or later on Windows NT 4.0 before installing 50comupd.exe. As with all operating system changes, administrator privileges are required to use 50comupd.exe on Windows NT 4.0. You can get 50comupd.exe from the following Web page (select an appropriate site):

The following flags can be used to minimize the UI thrown by this archive:

50comupd /r:n /q:1 = 99% quiet mode, some errors will still pop up warnings.

50comupd /r:n /q:a = totally quiet, with no pop-ups even on error conditions.
