MORE INFORMATION

Microsoft provides programming examples for illustration only, without warranty either expressed or implied. This includes, but is not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. This article assumes that you are familiar with the programming language that is being demonstrated and with the tools that are used to create and to debug procedures. Microsoft support engineers can help explain the functionality of a particular procedure, but they will not modify these examples to provide added functionality or construct procedures to meet your specific requirements. The following Visual Basic for Applications macro searches the specified folder and sub-folders for Word document files. If files are found, the procedure will remove the path information and insert the file names into the active document.

NOTE: The FileFind property is not available on the Windows platform. Use the FileSearch property instead to search for files on a Windows system.

    Sub RemovePaths()
      With Application.FileFind
         .Options = msoOptionsNew
         ' Set primary folder to search.
         .SearchPath = "Macintosh HD:My Documents"
         ' Search subfolders of primary search folder.
         .SearchSubFolders = True
         ' Search for only Word documents.
         .FileType = MacID("W8BN")
          ' Execute search.
         If .Execute() > 0 Then
            MsgBox "There were " & .FoundFiles.Count & " file(s) found."
            ' Create new document to list found files.
            Documents.Add
            For i = 1 To .FoundFiles.Count
               ' Extract file name from full path and insert into document.
               Selection.TypeText Text:=Dir(.FoundFiles(i), vbDirectory) _
               & Chr(13)
            Next i
         Else
            MsgBox "There were no files found."
         End If
      End With
    End Sub
