PRJ98: Total Cost Different from Edited Timephased Actual Cost

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, when you edit timephased assignment Actual Cost for a task that is in-progress, you may see a different value in the Total Cost field when compared to the total of the timephased cost.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when following conditions are true:

  • The Actual costs are always calculated by Microsoft Project check box is clear. To locate this option, on the Tools menu click Options, and then click the Calculations tab.

    -and-

  • You manually enter timephased actual cost data for an in-progress task that has a resource with a Cost Per Use assigned to it.


WORKAROUND

To correct this problem, install Microsoft Project 98 for Windows Service Release 1 (SR-1).


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
