SYMPTOMSWhen you run a service or an application that uses the COM ports or Serial.sys, Windows NT Server may stop responding (hang) and the following system event appears in the Event Viewer: Event ID: 2019 Description: The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty. CAUSEThe computer running Windows NT Server is running out of nonpaged pool memory. This happens because Serial.sys is allocating memory that is never released. This problem can happen when you share IRQs with COM port devices. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0.
