SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to record a macro that uses the AutoMark feature for indexing a document, Microsoft Word may stop responding.

To work around this problem, use the following Visual Basic for Applications macro, which performs the functionality of recording AutoMarking indexes:
Sub MarkIndex()
Dim sConDoc As String
sConDoc = "Macintosh HD:My Docs:My Concordance Document"
ActiveDocument.Indexes.AutoMarkEntries sConDoc
End Sub
Note that "Macintosh HD:My Docs:My Concordance Document" should be changed to your concordance document path and file name.
For more information about concordance documents, click Contents And Index on the Help menu (or on the Balloon Help menu if you are using a version of the Macintosh operating system earlier than 8.0), click the Index button in Word Help, type the following text
concordance
and then click Show Topics. Select the "Mark index entries" topic, and click Go To. If you are unable to find the information you need, ask the Office Assistant.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
