SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Internet Explorer version 4.0 to 4.01, two copies of the Extract.exe file may be on your hard disk. The two copies of the file are the same size, but have different dates and are in different locations on your hard disk.

CAUSE

Some anti-virus programs prevent setup programs from copying executable (.exe) files to the Windows\Command folder. As a result, Internet Explorer 4.01 copies the Extract.exe and Iextract.exe files to the Windows folder instead of Windows\Command. NOTE: Both Internet Explorer 4.0 and 4.01 for Windows NT 4.0 copy these files to the Winnt folder.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Both copies of the Extract.exe file work correctly, and you can use either file to extract files from Windows 95 cabinet (.cab) files. The following list gives more information about these files:

Internet Explorer 4.0

Folder: Date: Size:
Windows\Command September 18, 1997 51.7KB (52,998 bytes)

Internet Explorer 4.01

Folder: Date: Size:
Windows November 18, 1997 51.7KB (52,998 bytes)

NOTE: You can safely delete duplicate files located in the Windows\Command folder.
