SYMPTOMS

When you print color graphics or photos from Microsoft Office 97 under Microsoft Windows 95, the color graphics or photos are printed with a blue haze or tint over them.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you use any of the following printers:

  • Apple 12/660 printer with the Adobe 4.1 or 4.2 PostScript printer driver
  • Canon 360PS
  • Epson 600 printer with version 2.2DE of the driver
  • Hewlett-Packard HP DJ 694c
  • Xerox 5750



This problem is caused by a memory conflict between the Windows 95 printer drivers and Image Color Management.

WORKAROUND

  • If you are using either the Canon 360PS or the Apple 12/660 printer with the Adobe 4.1 or 4.2 PostScript printer driver, Canon USA Technical Support has confirmed that this problem can be resolved by following these steps:

    1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer or My Computer, locate the following folder:

      Windows\System\Color

    2. Right-click Clbp3602.icc (Canon) or Aplwcsb1.icm (Apple) and click Uninstall.

      This removes the ICC color profile and allows the color graphics to be printed correctly.

      For more detailed information, contact Canon or Apple.
  • If you are using the Epson 600 version 2.2DE printer driver, you can resolve this problem by following these steps:

    1. In Windows Explorer or My Computer, locate the following folder:

      Windows\System\Color

    2. For all of the following files, right-click the file and click Uninstall.

      E1384542.ICM
      E13844A4.ICM
      E13843A4.ICM
      E13846A4.ICM
      E1384443.ICM
      E1384343.ICM
      E1384643.ICM

  • If you are using the Hewlett-Packard DJ 694c, uninstall all of your ICM and ICC files by right-clicking them and clicking Uninstall on the shortcut menu.
  • If you are using a Xerox 5750, right-click the following file

    EFSIX503.ICM

    -or-

    5750.ICM

    and click Uninstall on the shortcut menu.

Note that if your printer is not listed above, you can still try the above steps.

MORE INFORMATION

The printer drivers and operating systems listed in this article use a technology called Image Color Management that ensures that the color you scan, the color on your screen, and the color that is printed are all the same. Any .icc and .icm files try to compensate for the different devices; unfortunately, they overcompensate for the Microsoft Office 97 programs.

Removing these files should have no ill effect in your Office programs; however, color quality in other programs may be affected.

NOTE: The graphics appear correctly on the screen in all views and are printed correctly from the same programs running under Microsoft Windows NT.
