SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, if you copy and then paste a resource in a resource view, you may receive one of the following error messages.

In Windows 95

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

When you click Details, you receive the following message:

WINPROJ caused an invalid page fault in module WINPROJ.EXE at 0137:3006c3ae.

In Windows NT

An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.

WINPROJ.EXE
Exception: access violation (0xc0000005), Address: 0x3006c3ae.

CAUSE

This error may occur when all of the following conditions are true:

  • You are working with a project that is sharing resources from a resource pool.

    -and-

  • The resource pool is open.

    -and-

  • You copy a resource and then paste it in another row (or the same row) of the resource view.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the method appropriate for your situation.

No Resources Assigned

If there are no tasks in the resource pool with resources assigned, follow these steps:

  1. Close all the files that share resources from the pool.
  2. In the resource pool, click Resource Sheet on the View menu.
  3. Select all resources.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  6. Save the pool.
  7. Reopen the sharing files.

Now, you can copy and paste the resources either in the sharing files or in the pool without the error occurring.

NOTE: If any tasks with resource assignments exist in the resource pool, the resource assignments will be lost when you follow the workaround above.

Resources Are Assigned

If there are tasks in the resource pool with resources assigned, use either of the following methods:

  • Copy and paste the resource directly in the resource pool. On the Window menu, click the resource pool.

    -or-

  • Close the resource pool before copying and pasting a resource.
