SYMPTOMS

If the Windows Desktop Update component is installed and the Active Desktop is enabled, a white picture element (pixel) may appear in the upper-left corner of your desktop if you use a color other than white as your desktop wallpaper (or background).

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, disable the Active Desktop. To do so, right- click an empty area on the desktop, point to Active Desktop, and then click View As Web Page.

NOTE: If you disable the Active Desktop, you are unable to view active content on your desktop. Active content is content that can change, such as a stock ticker or a weather map.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

A pixel is a single dot on the screen.
