PRJ98: Out of Memory Error When Previewing, Printing a Report

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project 98, if you preview or print a report, you may receive the following error:

There is not enough memory to print.

To free up available memory, close programs, projects, or windows you aren't using, and then try again.

CAUSE

This error occurs when all of the following are true:

  • You print or preview a Task or Resource report.
  • At least one task (task report) or one resource (resource report) has a large quantity of notes assigned to it.
  • All of the following options are selected on the Details tab in the Report dialog box.
  • Task notes
  • Assignment notes

To locate the Details tab, click Reports on the View menu, select a report, click Select, select a report type, and then click Edit.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem turn off the option to print the Assignment notes:

  1. On the View menu, click Reports.
  2. Click the Custom preset. Click Select.
  3. Select the report you want to print.
  4. Click Edit.
  5. Under Assignment, click to clear the Notes check box.
  6. Click OK.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Project 98 for Windows, Service Release 1 (SR-1).
