PRJ: Incorrect Actual Cost When Dragged to New Day

SYMPTOMS

In Resource Usage view in Microsoft Project, if you drag an Actual Cost to a new day, the cost will move to the new day and the original day's Actual Cost will change to zero. If you then delete the zero Actual Cost, it will be split incorrectly between the original day and the new day.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you move an Actual Cost for a task and then attempt to delete the zero value of Actual Cost if the Actual Costs is Always Calculated by Microsoft Project option is turned off. To locate this option, click Options on the Tools menu, and then click the Calculation tab.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Actual Cost for the assignment.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
  3. Click where you want to move the cost.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

The original location will be blank.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
