SYMPTOMS
Internet publishing on Proxy Server 2.0 may fail when packet filtering is selected (enabled). Also, the Internet HTTP clients will fail to connect or timeout.
CAUSE
The packet filter driver in Proxy Server 2.0 blocks all non-proxy requests to and from the Proxy Server. The above problem only occurs when packet filtering is selected.
RESOLUTION
Open the Web Proxy Service properties, and select Enable Access Control under the Permissions tab.
In addition, the predefined filter for HTTP will also need to be added.
- Click the Service tab.
- Under the Shared Services section, select Security.
- Choose Add, and select the HTTP Server (port 80) filter from the list of predefined filters. This will allow HTTP traffic to pass through instead of being discarded by the proxy packet filter driver.
To also allow incoming HTTPS requests, add the HTTPS Server (port 443) filter from the list of predefined filters.
