SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications code to automate Word and set the WindowState property before the Visible property, Word starts without any toolbars or menus.
For example, the following Sub procedure displays Word without any toolbars or menus:
Private Sub Command1_Click()
Dim WD As Word.Application
Set WD = CreateObject("word.application")
WD.WindowState = wdWindowStateMaximize 'or wdWindowStateMinimize
WD.Visible = True
End Sub

Move the statement that sets the Visible property above the statement that sets the WindowState property.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Word 2000.
