SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open the Query Designer, one of the following errors appears:

The Query cannot be executed because some files are either missing or not registered. Run Setup again to make sure the required files are registered.

-or-

Query Designer encountered a Query error: Class not registered

-or-

Cannot create or open this document

-or-

Unable to output this table

CAUSE

The Visual Database Tools DLLs or one of their dependencies are not registered correctly or are not in the correct folder.

RESOLUTION

Make sure the following DLLs are located in the proper folder and that each one is properly registered:

  • \DevStudio\MSDesigners:

          mdtqd.dll
          mdtqodb.dll

  • \Winnt\System32:

          msrdo20.dll

To register the files, use RegSvr32. For example, to register Mdtqd.dll, you would click the Start menu and type the following into the Run dialog box:

regsvr32 "c:\Program Files\DevStudio\MSDesigners\mdtqd.dll"

STATUS

This problem has been resolved in Visual InterDev 6.0.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open a Web project in Visual InterDev that contains a data connection.
  2. Double-click on a table in the Data View.

If the Query Designer DLLs or their dependencies are not properly registered, one or more of the errors described in the SYMPTOMS section above will appear.
