The information in this article applies to:

  • == Microsoft Money, version 5.0 for Windows 95 ==

SYMPTOMS

When setting up Home Banking, Money makes a call to determine the services available for your financial institution. If you are calling from Canada, the call may not go through. You may hear a recorded message indicating that the call cannot be completed as dialed.

CAUSE

The Regional Settings in the Windows Control Panel must point to Canada at the time of installation to install the correct Canadian access phone number.

RESOLUTION

If you installed Money with the Regional Settings set for the United States there are a series of steps to correct this problem.

  • Remove Money
  • Change the Regional Settings to Canadian settings.
  • Reinstall Money.

The next time you attempt to set up Home Banking, Money will use the correct Canadian access number.

If you installed Money on Windows NT 4.0, please refer to the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

You can manually change the access phone number. This is a temporary workaround because this does not reset the access phone number in the Windows Registry. Under certain circumstances, the phone number may be reset to the original number.

Manually Change the Access Number

To change the phone number, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Online Services Setup Wizard.

  2. Proceed through the wizard. After entering your Bank Identification Number, click Next.

  3. Click Change Modem.

  4. In Telephone Number, type:

    362-9676

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click Connect and proceed through the wizard.

If your Internet Service Provider is compatible with Windows 95, you can also obtain information about the service available for your financial institution through the Internet. For additional information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

During Setup, Money determines which access phone number to write in the Windows Registry, based on the Country setting in the Regional Settings of the Control Panel. If Regional Settings are set for English (United States), Money uses 1-800-793-6675 as the access number; this number does not work in Canada. If your Regional Settings are set to English (Canadian) or French (Canadian), Money uses 1-800-362-9676 as the access number.

Remove Money

To correctly update the Windows Registry, remove and reinstall Money. Follow these steps to remove Money:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click to select Microsoft Money 5.0 and click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Remove All. If asked if you want to remove shared components, click Remove None.
  5. If prompted to restart Windows, click Yes.

Change the Regional Settings

Follow these steps to change the Regional Settings to Canadian settings:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Regional Settings.
  3. Change the Regional Settings to the appropriate Canadian settings.
  4. Click OK. If prompted to restart Windows, click Yes.

Reinstall Money. Money will then use the correct phone number for Canada.
