This article describes how to configure the Friends Online feature in MSN, The Microsoft Network.

With the Friends Online feature in MSN, you can create a list of friends and then receive notification when your friends are online and send private messages to them. To configure the Friends Online feature, use the following steps:

  1. In MSN, click Friends Online on the Communicate menu.
  2. Click Add People To Your List.

    NOTE: If you have already added one or more MSN members to your list of friends, click Add Friends.

  3. Under "Search for a friend to add," type the appropriate information about your friend in the Last Name, First; E-mail Name; City, State/Province; and Country boxes, and then click Search. Note that an entry in either the Last Name or E-mail Name box is required.
  4. Under Search Results, click the check box to the left of the correct name to select it.
  5. Click Add This Person.
  6. If you want to add more friends to your Friends Online list, click Add More Friends, and then repeat steps 3-6. If you are finished adding friends, click Done.
