SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel 97, after you change a control in a workbook and save the workbook, the changes you made to the control are not saved.
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- You create a workbook and place a control from the Control Toolbox toolbar on a worksheet in the workbook. -and-
- You close the workbook that contains the control. -and-
- You create another workbook, click Object on the Insert menu, and click the Create From File tab. -and-
- You click to select the Link To File check box and insert the workbook that contains the control. -and-
- In the workbook that is linked to the workbook that contains the control, you double-click the workbook object and edit the control. -and-
- You click Close on the File menu, and then click Yes when you are prompted to save changes.
This problem occurs if the workbook to which you are linking is closed when you edit the control.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, verify that the workbook you are referencing is open when you double-click the linked object.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
