XFOR: ICS MBS: Membership Server Becomes a Default SSPI When No Domain Name Supplied

Article ID: 170282

Article Last Modified on 9/30/2003

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System 1.0 Service Pack 2

This article was previously published under Q170282

SYMPTOMS

When a Security Support Provider Interface (SSPI) package does not supply a domain name to the Chat Server, it defaults to the Membership Server (MBS).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. Service Pack for Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. For information on obtaining the Service Pack, query on the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

183062 MCIS 1.0 Service Packs 1 and 2 Information

MORE INFORMATION

The default package should be what has been specified on the Security tab in Chat server. Instead of using MBS as the default SSPI, Chat Server substitutes the SSPI package, which authenticates the user.
