SYMPTOMS

When you run the Setup program from the Microsoft Publisher 97 compact disc that ships with the Microsoft Office 97 Value Added Reseller (VAR) Edition Starter Kit, Setup prompts you for a ten-digit CD-Key. However, the Microsoft Office 97 VAR Edition Starter kit uses an eleven-digit CD-Key.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Office VAR Edition Starter Kit includes a retail version of the Publisher 97 compact disc. Unlike the Microsoft Office 97 programs, which require an eleven-digit key, Microsoft Publisher 97 requires a ten-digit key.

RESOLUTION

When Setup prompts you for the CD-Key, enter the last ten digits of your eleven-digit CD-Key.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Office 97 VAR Edition Starter Kit.

MORE INFORMATION

The Microsoft Office VAR Edition Starter Kit is a bundle of several Microsoft products, including Microsoft Publisher 97.
