If you open a Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0, document in Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0, and double-click an embedded PowerPoint slide or presentation, you receive one of the following error messages:

Word cannot edit the Microsoft PowerPoint Slide

Word cannot edit the Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation.

This error may occur if you create the document on a computer running Microsoft Word, version 6.0, and PowerPoint, version 4.0, and open it on a computer running Microsoft Word, version 7.0 and PowerPoint, version 7.0.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft PowerPoint 97.
