SYMPTOMS
You cannot use the CTRL+ALT+F8 key combination in the Customize Keyboard dialog box. (To locate this dialog box, on the Tools menu, click Customize.)
CAUSE
The key combination CRTL+ALT+F8 is reserved for initiating keyboard programming on programmable keyboards, such as the Gateway 2000 programmable keyboard.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, use the appropriate method:
Method 1: Use a different key combination.
Method 2: Use a non-programmable keyboard.

You can assign a shortcut key to a command, macro, font, AutoText entry, style, or special character. To create a shortcut key assignment, use the following steps:
- On the Tools menu, click Customize.
- Click Keyboard.
- In the Save Changes In list, click the template in which you want to save the shortcut key assignment.
- In the Categories list box, click the appropriate category.
- In the Commands list box, click the command (or item) you want to use.
Word displays the current keyboard assignments in the Current Keys list box.
- In the Press New Shortcut Key box, type the shortcut key you want to use.
- Click Assign.
- Click Close.
