SYMPTOMS
The Neverhood stops responding (hangs) while you are using the cannon. This occurs if you have a Trident 96xx series display adapter.
CAUSE
The version of the display driver software you are using is not compatible with The Neverhood. Version 1.0 (version 4.0), as reported by the Display Properties in Windows, exhibits this behavior. DirectX Setup (Dxsetup.exe) reports this display driver as version 1.00.00.0000 and "Certified."
RESOLUTION
Obtain a newer video driver from your computer manufacturer.
NOTE: Version 3.01, available from on the Trident web site at http://www.tridentmicro.com/index.asp as of 11/15/96, is compatible with The Neverhood.
This driver includes some, but not all of the DirectX files. After installing this new display driver, run Dxsetup.exe from The Neverhood CD-ROM and click Reinstall. This makes sure you are using the most current DirectX files. This will not change your display driver.
After successful installation, DirectX Setup still reports 1.00.00.0000 as the driver version, however, the "Certified" description is no longer present. This is how you can tell the version 3.01 driver is installed.
NOTE: The DirectX Setup (Dxsetup.exe) file is located on The Neverhood CD-ROM in the Setup\DirectX folder.
NOTE: Most DirectX related problems have been resolved in the latest version of DirectX. Download the latest version of DirectX or, if you own a game that installs a later version of DirectX, install DirectX from the newer game's disc.
The latest version of DirectX is available at the following Microsoft Web site:
