Policy Editor Causes Page Fault in Comctl32.dll |

SYMPTOMS
When you use Policy Editor (Poledit.exe) and add numerous programs to the list of allowed programs, you may receive the following error message:
PAGEFAULT at <address> in comctl32.dll
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the list box is being updated even if there is no change to the information.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue in Microsoft Windows 95 OSR version 2.1 with Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 installed, disable support for Universal Serial Bus (USB) if it is not required. To do so, use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
- On the Device Manager tab, double-click Universal Serial Bus, double-click Universal Host Controller, and then click the Disable In This Profile check box to select it.
This issue is resolved by the following updated file for Windows 95 and OSR2, and later versions of this file:
POLEDIT.EXE version 4.00.951 dated 8/27/96 108,554 bytes
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95 and OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2). An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time. Contact Microsoft Technical Support for additional information about the availability of this update.
This issue is resolved in Microsoft Windows 98.
