PRB: Set the Scale of a Particle Scene to Simplify Calculation
Last reviewed: April 25, 1996
Article ID: Q148931
The information in this article applies to:
- Particle included with Softimage 3D Extreme for IRIX, version 3.0
- Particle added on to Softimage 3D for IRIX, version 3.0
SYMPTOMS
If you do not set a Particle Range grid factor, Particle calculates a grid factor of 1 by design, which creates many more subdivisions and increases calculation time substantially.
RESOLUTION
To avoid excess calculation time, use the Setup-Range function to set the scale of a Particle scene in relation to a scene in Softimage 3D.
Determine the Particle Range grid factor according to the number of grid units in the Softimage 3D scene. The ratio is approximately 1 Particle grid unit to 100 Softimage 3D grid units (1 Particle grid : 100 SI grid). By this ratio, if a Softimage 3D scene grid is 2,000 units in length, indicate a Particle Range grid factor of 20.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
