SUMMARY

FrontPage is a client/server Web publishing tool that allows you to publish locally, from a corporate LAN, or across remote servers on the Internet. FrontPage includes the following components:

FrontPage Client

  • FrontPage Explorer, a tool for creating, viewing and maintaining Web sites.
  • FrontPage Editor, a tool for creating and testing Web pages.
  • To Do List, a tool that tracks users and the tasks associated with them.
  • Wizards and templates for personal and business pages and Webs.

FrontPage Server

  • FrontPage Personal Web Server, a Web server that supports HTTP and CGI standards. The 32-bit version of the Personal Web Server only supports standard CGI.
  • Server Extensions, enabling servers to work with FrontPage.
  • Server Administrator, a tool that manages security and access to your server.

To run FrontPage version 1.0, you should have the following:

  • Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows NT 3.51 or higher, or Windows 95.
  • A personal computer with a 486 or higher processor.
  • 8 megabytes (MB) of RAM required; 16 MB of RAM recommended for the Personal WEB Server.
  • 16 MB of available hard disk space.
  • A 20 MB permanent swap file.
  • Winsock 1.1-compliant TCP/IP or later. To run the Personal Web Server, the TCP/IP stack must support local loopback or you must be connected to a domain name server (DNS).

To run FrontPage version 1.1, you should have the following:

  • Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 or higher or Windows 95.
  • A personal computer with a 486 or higher processor.
  • 8 MB of RAM required; 16 MB of RAM recommended for Personal Web Server; 16 MB of RAM recommended for Windows NT.
  • 16 MB of available hard disk space.
  • Winsock 1.1-compliant TCP/IP or later. To run the Personal Web Server, the TCP/IP stack must support local loopback or you must be connected to a domain name server (DNS).
