PUB: Double Numbers with Numbered List

Article ID: 142382

Article Last Modified on 8/17/2005

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Publisher 3.0 Standard Edition

This article was previously published under Q142382

SYMPTOMS

If you manually number some paragraphs in Microsoft Publisher and then format those paragraphs as a numbered list, Publisher will add another set of numbers to the beginning of the paragraph.

This behavior is different from Microsoft Word: if you manually number some paragraphs in Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0, or Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0, and if you format those paragraphs as a numbered list, Word will use the numbers you added as the numbers for the list, it will not add another set.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design of Microsoft Publisher. (Microsoft Word has more advanced word processing features than Microsoft Publisher.)

RESOLUTION

When you use the numbered list feature in Publisher, don't type the numbering in yourself.
