The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Money version 4.0 and 4.0a

SYMPTOMS

If you installed Microsoft Money for Windows 95 from compact disk, you may receive the following error message when you start Money for Windows 95 or the Multimedia Catalog:

C:.vbx is out of date. This program requires a newer version.

When you click OK, you receive the following message and then, the program closes:

Unexpected error : Quitting

CAUSE

This problem occurs if any of the following conditions exist:

  • Another Visual Basic application is already running, and it is using an out-of-date Picclip.vbx file.
  • An out-of-date Picclip.vbx file is higher on the search list than the current version installed with Money for Windows 95. That is, Money and MMCAT (Multimedia Catalog) find the out-of-date file before they find the current version.
  • An out-of-date version of Picclip.vbx has been copied over the version installed by the Money for Windows 95.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the problem, you will need to copy the Picclip.vbx file that came with the Multimedia Catalog and remove any duplicate copies of Picclip.vbx from your hard disk. To do this, use the following steps:

  1. Rename all previous or duplicate versions of Picclip.vbx on your hard disk. To find all copies of Picclip.vbx on your system, use the following steps:

    1. Click the Start button, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.

    2. In the Named box, type “picclip.vbx” (without the quotation marks).

    3. In the Look In box, click My Computer.

    4. Click Find Now.

    5. On the View menu, click Details.

    6. Rename any copies of the Picclip.vbx file that are duplicates or older than the file that came with Microsoft Money. For example, you could rename the file Picclip vbx.old. (For attributes of the file that shipped with Money 4.0, see the “More Information” section below.)

For more information about how to rename a file in Windows, see your Windows printed documentation or online Help.

  2. Copy the Picclip.vbx file found in the Mmcat folder on the Money compact disc to the Windowsfolder on your hard disk. For more information about how to perform this task in Windows, see your Windows printed documentation or online Help.
