SYMPTOMS
When you connect to the Internet using a third-party Internet service provider and you try to view a newsgroup using the version of Microsoft Internet Explorer included with Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to read news:
Mcm.dll is missing entry point NewsProtocolHandler.
You may have an incorrect version of Mcm.dll. Try setting up your news program again.
CAUSE
Internet Explorer 1.0 supports the "news:" protocol only when connected to the Internet using MSN, The Microsoft Network.
RESOLUTION
This issue is corrected in version 2.0 of Internet Explorer.
MORE INFORMATION
The version of MSN included with Windows 95 does not support the "news:" protocol.
