SUMMARY

The Fill Series command on the Edit menu in Works Spreadsheet or the list view in Works Database can only fill cells in one direction: either top-to-bottom, or left-to-right. The direction of the fill is determined by the number of columns and rows in the current selection.

MORE INFORMATION

The direction of the filled series depends on the number of rows and columns selected (highlighted). If more rows are selected than columns, the series fills down. If more columns than rows are selected, the series fills across. If an equal number of columns and rows are selected, the series fills down.

Fill Direction Examples

  • If cell A1 contains a value, and cells A1 through D1 are highlighted, the series will fill across from A1 to D1.

  • If cell A1 contains a value, and cells A1 through A5 are highlighted, the series will fill down from A1 to A5.

  • If cell A1 contains a value, and cells A1 through D5 are highlighted, the series still only fills down from A1 to A5, because more rows than columns are selected.

  • If cell A1 contains a value and cells A1 through G5 are highlighted, the series fills across, because more columns than rows are selected.
