SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you insert an object, and you choose to display the object as an icon, if you select a different icon for the object, the new icon is not displayed. Instead, the default icon is displayed for the object.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you change the icon you want displayed for an object while you are inserting the object. The Insert Object dialog box allows you to change the icon for the object that you are inserting. The icon that you select appears to be chosen; however, when you insert the object in your project, the default icon is displayed instead of the new icon that you selected.

RESOLUTION

To change the icon used to display an object in your project, do the following:

  1. Click the object in your project that you want to have displayed with a different icon.
  2. On the Edit menu, click <object type> Object (where <object type> is the type of object that is in your project, such as WordPad) and then click Convert.
  3. In the Convert dialog box, click Change Icon.
  4. In the list of icons, click the icon that you want the object to be displayed with or use the Browse button to select an icon that is not available in the list, and then click OK.
  5. In the Convert dialog box, click OK.

The object is now displayed using the new icon that you selected.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
