SUMMARY

When you run Microsoft Works Setup in Maintenance mode, you cannot remove shared programs such as WordArt unless you also remove the Works program files.

MORE INFORMATION

The shared applications are not removed unless the program files are removed because the registry keeps a dependency list for each shared component. The dependency list tracks all of the applications that use the shared components. Setup does not remove shared components if the dependency list shows that an installed application still needs that shared component.

To remove any of the shared applications, you need to clear the check box next to Program Files in the Maintenance Mode option list. This removes Msworks.exe from the hard drive and removes it from the registry dependency list for each of the shared components. This allows Setup to remove the shared components.

To use Setup in Maintenance mode to remove any or all of the shared programs:

  1. Start Microsoft Works Setup. Because components are already installed, Setup starts in Maintenance mode.
  2. Click Add/Remove.
  3. Click to clear the Program Files check box, and then click OK.
  4. In the Options list, select Accessories.
  5. Click Change Option.
  6. Click to clear the check boxes for the accessories that you want to remove.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the components, click Yes.
  10. When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the shared components, click Remove All.
  11. When you receive a message stating that setup was completed successfully, click OK.

Reinstalling Works Program Files

After you remove the shared progams, use the following procedure to reinstall the Works program files.

  1. Start Works Setup. Setup starts in Maintenance mode.
  2. Click Add/Remove.
  3. Select the Program Files check box.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Setup prompts you to install a desktop shortcut. Click Yes or No as you prefer.
  6. When Setup completes, click OK.
