SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, if the trademark symbol appears in a field on your project, the symbol is displayed as a vertical bar (|) in the following locations:

  • Entry bar

  • Task Information dialog box

  • Resource Information dialog box

  • All form views

CAUSE

In Microsoft Project, and the Microsoft Office applications, when you enter the text "(tm)" in a field in your project, the AutoCorrect feature changes this text to the trademark symbol. The trademark symbol displays correctly in the Task Name and Resource Name fields; however, this symbol is displayed as a vertical bar (|) in the locations listed above.

This behavior occurs because the fonts used in the entry bar, the Task Information and Resource Information dialog boxes, and all of the form views do not contain a valid representation for the trademark symbol character.

Note that when you enter the text "(c)" or "(r)" in your project, the AutoCorrect feature replaces the text with the copyright symbol or the registered trademark symbol respectively. Both of these symbols are displayed correctly in the entry bar and the other locations mentioned above where the trademark symbol is not displayed correctly.

This behavior affects only the display of the trademark symbol in your project. The trademark symbol appears correctly when you print your project.
