Viewing the Status of Active APPC, LU6.2, and 5250 Sessions

SUMMARY

Both SNA Server Admin for SNAS erver version 2.x and SNA Server Manager fpr SNA Server version 3.0 display a list of users that are using 3270 and LUA sessions, and allow the administrator to reset these sessions.

This article describes how you can access these same capabilities in SNA Server Admin for APPC, LU6.2, or 5250 sessions, whose status information is available through different dialogs.

SNA Server 2.x

The SNA Server Admin program allows the administrator to see which users are using APPC, 5250, LU6.2 sessions through SNA Server, and allows the administrator to deactivate or reset the sessions.

An independent LU6.2 APPC LU can support multiple concurrent sessions, but the main SNA Server Admin screen does not display them all because it was not designed to support multiple concurrent sessions. Instead, the Local APPC LU indicates the number of active sessions in the Status column within the main Server and Connections window.

To view the detailed status of APPC LU sessions and to disconnect them, follow these steps in SNA Server Admin:

To find the Local APPC LU within SNA Server Admin, go to the Servers and Connections window in SNA Server Admin and select the SNA Server you are interested in.

This causes the Local APPC LUs to appear on the right side of the window.

NOTE: The Status column indicates the number of LU6.2 sessions currently used over this Local APPC LU (if no sessions are used, the Status is Inactive).
Select the Local APPC LU and from the Services menu choose Properties.

This brings up the APPC LU Properties dialog.
Choose the Status button.

This brings up the APPC LU Status dialog box, which shows all Remote APPC LU/Mode partnerships that this Local LU is partnered with. For example, if this Local APPC LU is partnered with multiple Remote APPC LUs associated with multiple AS/400 computers, the window displays the following:

In this example, the Local APPC LU named LOCAL has 10 active sessions to AS400A, and four active sessions to AS400B over the QPCSUPP mode (the default mode name used to communicate with AS/400 systems). The session limit is also shown, which was negotiated during initial LU6.2 session activation with the remote system.

You can ignore the SNASVCMG mode, defined by IBM SNA LU6.2 architecture; this mode name is not used by APPC/CPIC applications.

Select the Partner LU/Mode line and choose the Zoom button.

This displays detailed status information on the active sessions users have to this Partner APPC LU. Here is some sample output that appears when choosing the AS400B/QPCSUPP mode in the previous example:

To deactivate a specific APPC session, select the desired user entry and choose on the Deactivate button.

This causes the APPC LU session to be disconnected and frees up the LU for another user. Users whose sessions you deactivate can reopen their APPC sessions again as long as the LU/LU/mode pair is not already at the negotiated session limit.

SNA Server 3.0 and 4.0

The SNA Server Manager program allows the administrator to see which users are using APPC, 5250, LU6.2 sessions through SNA Server, and allows the administrator to deactivate or reset the sessions.

To view the detailed status of APPC LU sessions and to disconnect them, follow these steps in SNA Server Manager:

Select the SNA Server you are interested in from within SNA Server Manager.
Open either the Local APPC LUs folder or the Remote APPC LUs folder to see a list of the Local or Remote APPC LUs that are defined for that SNA Server.
Choose one of the listed Local APPC LUs in the Local APPC LUs folder or one of the Remote APPC LUs in the Remote APPC LUs folder.

This causes the Active sessions for the selected APPC LU to be displayed on the right side of the Manager window. For example, if a Local APPC LU called LOCAL is selected in the Local APPC LUs folder, the window display might look as follows:

In this example, the Local APPC LU named LOCAL has 2 active sessions to AS400A, and one active session to AS400B over the QPCSUPP mode (the default mode name used to communicate with AS/400 systems).

If a Remote APPC LU was selected, the resulting display would show the same information as was listed above, but it would only be for active sessions using that Remote APPC LU.
To deactivate a specific APPC session, right-click on the desired entry and select 'Stop'.
