SYMPTOMS
Letter borders may contain small square boxes when you print a Letter Writer document to an Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet 500 series printer using HP driver version 4.10 in Black Text or Automatic mode.
RESOLUTION
To solve the problem, use one of the following methods:
Method 1
Change the printer setting to Grayscale, Color Graphics, or Color Photo.
To change the printer setup within Letter Writer, do the following:
- In Letter Writer, click the Print Or Send squishy.
- Click the Set Up Printer squishy.
- In the Print Setup dialog box, click Options.
- In the Printout section, click Grayscale or, if you are using a color printer, click Color Graphics or Color Photo.
- Click OK.

Method 2
Update the printer driver to HP DeskJet driver version 5.0 or later.
