SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Excel, when you print a worksheet with the gridlines print option selected under Microsoft Windows NT, the border around the printed area may not appear on the printout.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if you have changed the Window Text color in Microsoft Windows to a color other than the default, such as white. When you do this, if you print a worksheet in Microsoft Excel with the Gridlines print option selected, the cell gridlines are printed as expected; however, the border around the entire print area is not printed.
Note that when you print a worksheet in Microsoft Excel version 7.0, by default, the Gridlines print option is not selected.
This problem does not occur under Microsoft Windows 95.
WORKAROUNDS
To work around this behavior, use any of the following methods:
Method 1:
In Microsoft Windows NT, change the Window Text color option back to the default by using the Control Panel, Colors icon.
Method 2: In Microsoft Excel, print your worksheet using the Black And White print option. To do this, do the following:
- In Microsoft Excel, open the worksheet that you want to be printed with gridlines.
- On the File menu, click Page Setup.
- Click the Sheet tab. Select the Black And White check box, and then click OK.
The worksheet is now printed with the expected gridlines and the border around the print area.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
