SUMMARY

Section 4.11 “Exporting to a .PCX, .BMP, or .TIF file” on page 23 of the Automap Road Atlas for MS-DOS manual incorrectly states that you can export a map or a table to a .PCX file.

You can only export a map to a .PCX, .BMP, or .TMP file. Tables are exported by printing to a file.

To print a table to a text file requires a two-step process: configuring the settings and then printing the file.

CONFIGURATION SETTINGS

  1. Choose Configuration from the Screen menu, or type the following at the MS-DOS prompt and press ENTER:

    amconfig

  2. Select the Printer menu and choose one of the three printer selections.

  3. From the list of printers, select Text Only Printer.

  4. In the Print To field, press the SPACEBAR to show the options and select File.

NOTE: Do not set the filename unless you want the same filename as a default.

  5. Choose OK.

  6. Exit from the Configuration settings.

PRINTING

  1. When the Table is displayed, choose Print Table from the File menu.
  2. Select Text Only Printer To and choose OK.
  3. Enter a filename and choose OK.

By default, if no file extension is provided, the assigned file extension will be .PRN. The table will be saved to your hard drive with the extension .PRN. A .PRN file can be sent directly to a floppy disk or to a printer using the MS-DOS COPY command. The filename must follow MS-DOS naming conventions, and cannot exceed eight characters and three characters for an extension.

For example, to copy a file named TEST.PRN to the first parallel printer port (LPT1:), type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER:

copy test.prn lpt1:

To copy a file named TEST.NO1 to the first parallel printer port (LPT1:), type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER:

copy test.no1 lpt1:
