SYMPTOM

The error “File or Project not Found” occurs when adding or renaming a file on Windows NT.

CAUSE

The SourceSafe limitation for a characters in a file name is 32 characters.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug has been corrected in Visual SourceSafe version 4.0. The limit for filenames has been increased to 255 characters.
