SYMPTOMS
If you use QuickLink-II, the Windows default communication driver may be replaced. Using the QuickLink RHSICOMM.DRV driver in place of the Windows COMM.DRV driver may cause several problems including the following error message:
Your modem is turned off, improperly configured, or in use by another application. Press F1 for more information.
RESOLUTION
To cancel (disable) QuickLink-II and use the Windows COMM.DRV driver instead, do the following:
Open the SYSTEM.INI file in a text editor such as Notepad.
Disable the RHSICOMM.DRV driver in the [BOOT] section by adding a semicolon (;) to the line that reads
COMM.DRV=RHSICOMM.DRV
so that it reads:
;COMM.DRV=RHSICOMM.DRV
To re-enable the Windows COMM.DRV driver in the [BOOT] section, add a line in that section that reads:
COMM.DRV=COMM.DRV
There may be an additional line in the [BOOT] section that reads:
COMM_DRV_OLD=comm.drv
Add a semicolon in front of this line so that it reads:
;COMM_DRV_OLD-comm.drv
Save the changes, exit Windows, and restart your computer.
