The Microsoft Project Converter is available from Microsoft Technical Support. The Microsoft Project Converter is a Windows-based program that you can use to convert files created in other project management software packages to a format that is compatible with Microsoft Project versions 4.0, 4.1.

Microsoft Project Converter can convert files created in the following applications:
ABT Project Workbench version 3.x (for DOS)
ABT Project Workbench version 1.x for Windows
CA-SuperProject(R) version 3.0 for Windows
Symantec(R) Time Line version 5.0
Symantec Time Line version 1.0 for Windows
NOTE: The Microsoft Project Converter is not compatible with ABT Project Workbench 4.0 for Windows. The converter does not recognize the 4.0 file format. In addition, ABT Project Workbench 4.0 for Windows does not save files in either the ABT Project Workbench version 1.x for Windows format or the ABT Project Workbench version 3.x (for DOS) format.
Installing Microsoft Project Converter
- Quit Microsoft Project if it is running.
- On the Windows Start menu, click Run.
- In the Open box, type <path>:\WP1177.EXE, where <path> designates the location where Wp1177.exe is located. Click OK.
- In the Open box, type <path>:\ setup, where <path> designates the location where you expanded Wp1177.exe in step 2. Click OK.
The Setup program will copy the necessary files to your computer.
Converting Project Files
For instructions on how to use Microsoft Project Converter, read the Readme.wri file that is installed to the same directory as the Converter program when you run Setup. Readme.wri contains general instructions for converting files to Microsoft Project files and detailed information on how the project data is translated.
NOTE: Although the Converter program runs only on computers running Microsoft Windows, the converted files can be transferred to a Macintosh computer (using a transfer utility such as Apple File Exchange or Macintosh PC Exchange) and opened in Microsoft Project 4.0 for the Macintosh.
