SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, when you consolidate a number of files (more than 30), you may receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if there is not enough memory available to Microsoft Project to open all of the files that you want to consolidate. In Microsoft Project, you can consolidate up to 80 files. However, the preferred memory size for the Microsoft Project program file is not great enough by default to allow you to consolidate this number of files.
This behavior is by design of Microsoft Project. By default, the preferred memory size for Microsoft Project is 4096 MB; minimum size is 2048.
WORKAROUND
To work around this behavior, and to help improve performance in Microsoft Project, you can increase the preferred memory size for Microsoft Project by doing the following:
- From the Finder, select the Microsoft Project icon.
- From the File menu, choose Get Info.
- Under Memory Requirements, enter a larger number for Preferred Size.
NOTE: The maximum size you can specify depends on the amount of memory installed on your computer, and the amount of virtual memory allocated in the Memory section of the Controls Panels. For more information, see your Apple system documentation.
