How to Back up a Windows NT 3.5 DHCP Database

To backup a DHCP database under Windows NT 3.5, back up files in the SYSTEM32directory and use Registry Editor to save the DHCP Configuration key.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.

To back up a DHCP database:

  1. Stop the DHCP Server service.

  2. Backup the files in the %SYSTEMROOT%directory.

  3. Run Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE).

  4. From the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:

  5. From the Registry menu, choose Save Key.

  6. Save the key.

To restore a DHCP database:

  1. Stop the DHCP Server service.

  2. Restore the backed up files to %SYSTEMROOT%directory.

  3. Run Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE).

  4. From the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree, go to the following subkey:
