PRJ4: Can't Copy Module to/from GLOBAL.MPT on NetWare Server

Q128998

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project for Windows, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you use the Organizer to copy a Visual Basic module to or from GLOBAL.MPT, the module is not copied.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur when the GLOBAL.MPT file is located on a Novell NetWare server. For example, if you are running a workstation installation of Microsoft Project from a Novell NetWare server drive, you may be unable to copy a module to or from the GLOBAL.MPT file. This behavior occurs even if you have Read/Write/Create/Delete/Modify (RWCDM) rights on the server.

NOTE: This problem does not occur with elements, such as views, reports, tables, or filters that you copy from or to GLOBAL.MPT using the Organizer. Also, this problem may occur if the Global.mpt file is on the local drive and the project file is on the network or the Global.mpt file is on the network and the working directory is on the network.

WORKAROUND

To move modules to and from the GLOBAL.MPT file, place this file on your local hard drive and start Microsoft Project with the working directory pointed to the location where you place the file. Make your changes and move the GLOBAL.MPT file back to the network after making changes.

NOTE: In some cases, you may want to experiment with the working directory location. If the working directory is located on a networked drive, you may not be able to copy modules using the organizer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Project listed above.
