The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Bob version 1.0

SUMMARY

If setup fails when you reinstall Bob in maintenance mode, run setup from the original disks or CD-ROM.

SYMPTOMS

If you install Microsoft Bob from a floppy disk, you may receive any of the following error messages:

Cannot read from drive <drive>

-or-

Could not read from file named <drive>:.cab

-or-

The compressed file <drive>:.cab cannot be decompressed and may be corrupted

-or-

Tried to create an invalid path using <drive>: and U2.cab.

where <drive> is the letter of your floppy drive.

This problem occurs with Windows 3.x when you try to reinstall Bob in Setup maintenance mode.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, run SETUP.EXE from Disk 1 of your Microsoft Bob Installation disks, rather than from your hard disk drive. As long as the setup table file (SETUP.STF) is registered correctly in the [MS Setup (ACME) Table Files] section of your WIN.INI file, the maintenance mode of Setup should run properly.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior occurs when you run Setup from your hard disk drive, either by double-clicking the Setup icon in the Microsoft Bob Program Group or by double-clicking the SETUP.EXE file in the Microsoft Bob Setup directory.
