SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Project, when you update a link to a published edition by using the Update Now button in the Links dialog box, you may receive the following error message:
When you choose OK, you receive the following error message
where <Project1 Edition #1> is the published edition and <Macintosh HD:Microsoft Project:Files> is the location of the published edition.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when the edition to which you are updating the link was published using a view in Microsoft Project that is no longer available. For example, when you create the view MyView, and you publish a portion of your project with this view applied, if you later delete the view MyView, you receive the error messages described above when you update a link to the edition published using this view.
Note that the error message indicating that Microsoft Project can't update from the link is by design. This error message is expected under these conditions because the view that was used to create the published edition is missing. However, the "Out of Memory" error is incorrect; this problem does not depend on the amount of memory available in Microsoft Project.
Note that when you subscribe to an edition, if the view that was applied when you created the edition is no longer available, you receive the following error message:
WORKAROUND
To avoid receiving either of these error messages, do not delete a view from your project that was applied when you published information in the project.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
