Black Boxes/Lines Print Across Rotated WordArt Object

Black Boxes/Lines Print Across Rotated WordArt Object

Q128339

-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Publisher versions 2.0 and 2.0a
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you print out a publication on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) HPIII series
printer, a rotated WordArt object may print with a black line across
it. The Choose A Shape styles that do this are "Bottom to Top" and "Top
to Bottom."

CAUSE
=====

This problem occurs when the publication's print file size is near or
exceeds the printer's onboard memory RAM size.

WORKAROUND
==========

In lieu of upgrading the printer's memory (which, in the long run, is the
preferred method of solving this problem), you can manually rotate the
WordArt object using the following steps.

1. Double-click the WordArt object in your publication.

2. Change the "Bottom to Top" or "Top to Bottom" style to "Plain."

3. From the Format menu, choose Rotation And Effects.

4. Set the Rotation value to 90 degrees for "Bottom to Top" style, or to
   -90 degrees for "Top to Bottom" style.

5. Click outside the WordArt area to return to Publisher.

The WordArt should now print without a line or boxes printing through it.
